Twinkle (singer)

Twinkle (actually: Lynn Annette Ripley, born July 15, 1948 in Surbiton, Surrey, England ) is a former English pop singer and songwriter, who was especially mid-1960s successfully.

Life

Twinkles most successful songs were the British chart hits Terry and Golden Lights, which they called 17 -year-old wrote themselves, and brought in the charts. Thematically had Terry resemblance to Leader of the Pack by the Shangri -Las; both songs were about a girl who was mourning the death of his daredevil friend in a motorcycle accident. One of the session musicians in the recording of Terry was Jimmy Page. In Germany Terry was published in 1965 by Marion with German text on Polydor, but without going into the German charts.

Twinkles second hit Golden Lights was a song about her former boyfriend Declan Cluskey of the Bachelors. The song was covered in 1986 by the Smiths. Smiths singer Morrissey was an avowed admirer Twinkles; as Elton John and Cat Stevens declared themselves as fans.

In 1965, Twinkle A Lonely Singing Doll on an English cover version of the winning song of the Grand Prix de la Chanson, Poupée de cire, poupée de son. France Gall won the Serge Gainsbourg title for Luxembourg; Twinkles version, however, was not a success, just as the following single Tommy, the cover version of a song by Reparata & the Delrons, from Twinkle also published a self- sung in German language version.

Having released six singles for Decca Records, she retired with 18 for the first time back for a while from the pop business. 1969 there was a comeback single on the label of Andrew Loog Oldham Immediate; Mickey could have been a hit, but only a week after the publication Immediate was dissolved. Until the 1980s Twinkle took every now and then on plates; these later recordings usually appeared under the name Twinkle Ripley or, together with her father Sidney Ripley, as a duo Bill & Coo. In addition, she worked as a composer for television theme music and jingles.
