Tynedale

Tynedale was a District in the county of Northumberland in England, which is named after the River Tyne. Administrative headquarters was the town of Hexham. Other important towns were Corbridge, Haltwhistle, Prudhoe and Wylam. With an area of ​​2219 km ² Tynedale was the second largest county in England, only the East Riding of Yorkshire was bigger.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the Urban District Hexham and Prudhoe and the Rural District Bellingham, Haltwhistle and Hexham. On 1 April 2009 the district was dissolved and transferred the management of the newly formed unitary authority Northumberland.
