Tyrolit

Tyrolit (proper spelling: TYROLIT ) develops, manufactures and markets bonded abrasives and concrete drilling and sawing systems. With 27 production sites on four continents tyrolit Group is one of the world's largest manufacturers of bonded abrasives. The company's headquarters is located in Schwaz, Tyrol, Austria. Tyrolit - a registered trademark - was named after the mineral found for the first time in Schwaz in Tirol tyrolit.

Company History

Tyrolit was born on February 13, 1919 co-founded by Daniel Swarovski to producing high-quality grinding tools for the Swarovski crystal production. During the First World War, the Swarovski group was cut off from the supply of grinding wheels and was forced to develop their own grinding wheels and produce. After the war, Swarovski, decided to set up a separate company to develop grinding wheels, manufacture and market Tyrolit was founded. In 1950 tyrolit was removed from the Swarovski factory in Wattens and moved to Schwaz. One of the biggest growth drivers of the company was the launch of cutting and grinding with fabric reinforcement ( SECUR ) in 1952. The glass fiber reinforcement significantly improved the fracture and user safety the tools.

In 1991 tyrolit acquired the U.S. company Diamond Products and the Swiss company Hydrostress. Tyrolit extended with these acquisitions significantly its presence in the market for concrete drilling and sawing systems.

Other major acquisitions were made in 2004 with the purchase of the Czech Carborundum Electrite and in 2009 with the purchase of the U.S. company Radiac.
