U-Roy

U-Roy ( born September 21, 1942 as Ewart Beckford in Jones Town, Jamaica ) is a reggae musician. He is also known as The Originator, Father of deejaying or Hugh Roy.

Career

He started his career in 1961 as a DJ U-Roy in the Sound Systems Doctor Dickies, Sir George the Atomic and Home Town Hi- fi by King Tubby. As King Tubby in 1967 began experimenting with dub and dub plates (ie songs where the original vocal track was removed ), U - Roy was as its most prominent DJ and singer (see also Toasting ) in the invention of dub reggae involved. This new style has been extremely popular and has become one of the major styles of reggae. U-Roy was a Jamaican celebrity.
