Udawalawe-Nationalpark

The Udawalawe National Park is a national park located on the border between the Sabaragamuwa and Uva Province in southern Sri Lanka. The region was declared on 30 June 1972 National Park to offer based there animal species, such as birds and elephants, protection.

Climate

The Udawalawe National Park is located on the border between the so-called wet and dry zones. The mean annual rainfall is 1520 mm, which is most caused by the monsoon from May to September. Flora and vegetation

The park consists mainly of open grassland and woods.

Fauna

The area is famous for its large elephant population. Other species that are living in the Udawalawe National Park water buffalo, wild boar, barking deer, Axishirsche and mongooses. Also home to a small number of leopards (Sri Lanka leopards ) in the park.
