Ugandan presidential election, 2001

The presidential elections in Uganda found on 26 June 2001 simultaneously with the parliamentary elections. The winner of the election was at a turnout of 67.74 per cent of the 10,775,836 eligible voters, the previous incumbent, Yoweri Museveni, who received 69.45 percent of the vote, Kizza Besigye its competitors, who received 27.69 percent hit.

Six candidates competed for election, in addition to the favorites and only candidate with real chances to win Kizza Besigye and Yoweri Museveni, these were Muhammad Mayanja Kibirige, Karuhanga Chapaa, Francis Bwengye, Charles Aggrey Awori and Ssenkubuge.

Museveni was re-elected with 69.45 percent, Besigye received 27.69 percent of the vote. Awori was 1.42 percent of the vote, Kibirige 1.00 percent, 0.31 percent and Bwengye Chaapa gain 0.14 percent.

In the 17,308 polling stations in addition the 214 Members of Parliament were elected.
