Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Przemyśl–Warsaw

The archeparchy Przemysl -Warsaw (Latin: Archieparchia Premisliensis - Byzantine rite Varsaviensis ucraini ) is located in Poland archeparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, based in Przemysl.

History

The Diocese of Przemysl and Sanok - Sambir was established by various types of information to 1087 in Poland and was a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Kiev. The first historical records began around 1218, in 1422 the diocese of Przemysl and Sambir was created. The bishop's seat was in Przemysl, in Sambir talked to a bishop's residence. At the Synod of Brest was the 1596 division of the Orthodox Church in Poland - Lithuania and the creation of the Uniate Church. The Greek Catholic Eparchy Przemys was finally in 1691 the archeparchy Kiev assumed as suffragan. On February 22, 1807 altered Pope Pius VII, with the Apostolic Constitution Ecclesia universalis in, again the affiliation of the eparchy and placed it under the Ukrainian Greek Catholic archeparchy Lviv as suffragan.

By 1939, the archeparchy Przemys belonged next to Wroclaw and Lviv at the three Polish centers of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. In the years 1939 to 1941 Lviv was incorporated into the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. 1941 Lviv was, after the conquest by German troops, part of the German General. When the city came in 1944 under Soviet rule again, most resident Poles were expelled. As a result of border changes after the Second World War, the Eparchy of Przemysl - Sambir was transformed with the western part on March 31, 1947 independent Greek Catholic Diocese of Przemysl. 1981 saw the final drawing of the diocese limits for members of the Greek Catholic Church, this was also for the Polish southeast the Diocese of Przemysl -Warsaw.
