Ulises Ruiz Ortiz

Ulises Ruiz Ortiz ( born April 9, 1958 in Chalcatongo de Hidalgo, Oaxaca ) is a Mexican politician of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional. He was from 2004 to 2010 Governor of the State of Oaxaca.

In Ruiz's tenure there were numerous conflicts, in particular he was accused of election fraud. Once he wanted to knock down a protest by the teachers' union SNTE violently while three people died, a riot, which is supported by the Asamblea Popular de los Pueblos de Oaxaca developed. Ruiz was forced to flee from his official residence in the capital city of Oaxaca de Juarez. The insurgents declared to end their protests only when Ruiz resign.

However, the term of Ortiz would have expired with the election of his successor Gabino Cué Monteagudo on July 4, 2010. This took office on 30 November of the same year.
