Uljaste is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Sonda ( Sonda vald ). It is located in Ida -Viru county (East Wierland ) in northeastern Estonia.

Description and History

The village has 15 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2009) .. It is located northwest of the village of Sonda.

Uljaste was first mentioned in documents in 1468. A village school existed in Uljaste 1885-1921.

Nature lovers is the Uljaste Lake ( Uljaste järv ). It has an area of 63 hectares. The greatest depth is 5.6 meters. To the west bordering the lake, the Moor of Uljaste ( Uljaste soo ). It is close to the two lakes Mädajärv ( 2.6 hectares) and are Saarjärv (0.5 hectares).

In the 1920s, emigrated to Estonia Russian poet Igor Severianin ( 1887-1941 ) was a frequent vacationer in Uljaste.
