The rural community of Sonda ( Sonda vald ) is located in Ida- Viru county in northeastern Estonia.

Description

The rural community located about 30 from the city of Rakvere away. Its area is 148 km ². Then live 966 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2010).

Structure

In addition to the main town Sonda ( Sonda alevik ) belong to the rural community of the villages Erra, Erra - Liiva, Varinurme, Koljala, Nuri, Vainu, Uljaste, Satsu and Ilmaste.

The two oldest places are mentioned in the Liber Census Daniae, Uljaste 1468 and Satsu 1483rd

Narrow gauge railway

From 1926 to 1971 reversed a 62.6 km long narrow gauge railway from Sonda after Mustvee, as recalled by a memorial stone erected in 1989 today.
