Ulrik Christian Gyldenløve, Count of Samsø

Ulrik Christian Gyldenløve (* June 14, 1678 on Samsø, Denmark, † December 8, 1719 in Copenhagen), Count of Samsø and Freiherr von Marselisborg, was a Danish admiral. He was the son of the Danish King Christian V with Sophie Amalie Moth and thus half-brother of King Frederick IV

End of the 1690s he joined the Danish Navy and was in 1701 when General Admiral Commander in Chief of all Danish-Norwegian naval forces. During the Great Northern War, he beat the Swedish General Admiral Hans Wachtmeister 1710 in the Køgebucht and 1712 before Rügen. He defeated the Swedes again in 1715 before Jasmund, but with a renewed encounter in the Køgebucht 1719, he was mortally wounded by a Swedish sniper and died in Copenhagen his injuries.

He was married since 1708 Charlotte Amalie crab af Østergaard ( 1689-1709 ). The marriage remained childless, Charlotte already died a year later.
