Umeå Arts Campus

The Art Campus Umeå (in Swedish Konstnärligt campus, English Umeå Arts Campus ) is a campus of the University of Umea in Sweden. It is located in the former industrial area of ​​the city of Umeå on the banks of the river Ume älv that is rebuilt since 2009. The campus houses the School of Art, the School of Design and the School of Architecture of the University of Umea. Furthermore, the Bildmuseet Umeå in 2012 moved to the art campus, a museum of international contemporary art and visual culture.

History and renovation

The School of Art since 1987 is already on the site of a former paper mill. 1989 was added at the design school after an old transformer station was rebuilt according to the plans of the architect Olle Qvarnström. 2008 approved the University of Umeå, together with the Charitable Foundation of the Baltic group to invest a total of SEK 350 million in the art campus. The aim is to provide a creative environment for education, research and professional activities in the fields of architecture, design, art and digital culture.
