UMgungundlovu

Province

UMgungundlovu ( a tradition according to Zulu: Place the [ large ] elephants, however, unclear) was the capital founded by the king, Dingane in 1830 the Zulu, which was located on the territory of modern South African province of KwaZulu -Natal.

In uMgungundlovu there was the royal kraal ( thatched roofs huts that are around a central point, usually the royal hut, grouped), in which the Boer pioneers ( Voortrekkers ) Piet Retief and his men were in 1838 invited by Dingane to unarmed to be murdered.

The end of the battle marked Zuluhauptstadt of Blood River on December 16, 1838, four days later reached the Boer the deserted capital, making it equal to the ground.

Today is located at the historic site, a monument to the murdered Voortrekker; also the royal kraal was faithfully reconstructed.
