UN number

The UN number, also called material number is an identification number that is used for all hazardous substances at the same time as dangerous goods (hazardous ) are determined. It is the bottom number on the attached at all dangerous goods transports orange warning signs (danger signs) and the composition (type) of the transported goods.

The upper number is risk number ( Kemler ) called - see: list of identification numbers of the danger.

Basics

The handling of dangerous goods, was established by the United Nations in the Model Regulations of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, which are currently valid in the revision 17 ( 2011). This includes the structure of the database of dangerous goods according to the UN number.

Uses it is in international instruments such as the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR ) and inland waterways ( ADN, with ADNR and ADN -D), Regulations concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail (RID ) and the international Safety of Life at Sea Convention ( SOLAS).

Function of the UN number

The UN number describes the cargo, from which the hazard. It is given not only for individual chemical compounds, but also for groups of substances or other goods with potential danger. It is defined by an expert committee of the United Nations.

The material number is always four digits of numbers and is a consecutive number in a list of all recorded types of dangerous goods. For most UN numbers exactly heard a risk number.

The UN number and the Hazard ID should always be communicated in an accident the Polizei-/Feuerwehrleitstelle, as these may thereby coordinate aid better. The numbers provide (together with the ERICards ) fire departments and other BOS important information for the rapid capture of the hazard potential of substances and the introduction of proper measures.
