Action

The film deals with the Cuban refugee problem. Every year, thousands of Cubans try probably called Balseros (literally rafters ) to leave the supposed social paradise Cuba illegally across the sea. The main target is about 90 miles ( 150 km ) distant coast of Florida in the United States. This is also the aim of the two friends Raul and Elio. Both work in the tourism industry and dream of a life that exemplify them Western tourists. As Raúl is accused of the attack on tourists, after he had an altercation with his mother working as a prostitute, they make their escape plans seriously. Elios twin sister Lila, for years the sibling pair was inseparable, noticed a strange change in her brother. One day she discovered in a ruin the primitive, consisting only of a few boards raft. Lila decides on the risk and accompanied her brother and his friend on the run.

Aftermath

The three young Cuban leading man Dariel Arrechaga ( Raúl ), Anailín de la Rua de la Torre ( Purple ) and Javier Núñez Florián ( Elio ) traveled end of April 2012 to New York for the Tribeca Film Festival. During a stop in Miami disappeared, the two young actors Anailín de la Rúa and Javier Núñez, both 20 years old, initially without a trace. A few days later, both emerged from their hiding place again and announced to want to ask for Political asylum in the United States.

At the film festival itself Una Noche received the award for the "Best Camera" in the category " Film". The two male lead Dariel Arrechaga and Javier Núñez Florián were honored as " Best Actor ". Lucy Mulloy was awarded the "Best Newcomer director ".
