Uncial 053

The uncial 053 ( in the Gregory- Aland numbering; von Soden A4 ) is a Greek Unzialhandschrift of the New Testament, which is dated by paleography to the 9th century. It contains parts of Luke's Gospel ( 1:1-2:40 ) with comments on 14 parchment leaves ( 27.5 x 23 cm). The Code was described columns with 42 lines per page. He is one of the few codices which have been described in three columns per page ( more manuscripts: Codex Vaticanus, Codex Vaticanus Graecus 2061 ).

The manuscript is now in Munich in the Bavarian State Library ( Gr. 208, fol. 235-248 ).

The Greek text of this codex is a representative of the Byzantine text-type. Aland placed it with some restraint in category V.
