Uncial 055

The uncial 055 ( in the Gregory- Aland numbering ) is a Greek Unzialhandschrift of the New Testament, which is dated by paleography to the 11th century. It contains the incomplete text of the four Gospels on 303 parchment leaves with comments ( 26 x 19.5 cm). The Code was described single column with 37 rows per page.

Description

The comments are in the Western order ( Matthew, John, Luke, Mark ). The first three Gospels use the comments of Chrysostom. The Gospel of Mark uses the commentary of Victorinus.

The Code is written in semi- uncial manuscript, and is therefore listed in both uncial and in Minuskelhandschriftslisten. He is " written very peculiar style and beautiful." Hermann von Soden did not take him on in his catalog. According to some scholars, it is more of a comment than a manuscript of the New Testament.

The Code is kept in the Bibliothèque nationale de France ( Gr. 201) in Paris.

The Greek text of the manuscript represents the Byzantine text-type, yet Aland placed it in any category. It is one of the few Unzialhandschriften that are not quoted in the Nestle- Aland Novum Testamentum Grace.

The Code was examined by Scholz, Burgon, and Paulin Martin.
