Union for the Co-ordination of Transmission of Electricity

The Union for the Co -ordination of Transmission of Electricity ( UCTE) ( German: Union for the Coordination of Transmission of Electricity ) was responsible for coordinating the operation and expansion of the interconnected European grid, are supplied with a total of over 400 million consumers. Members were previously 34 TSOs from 22 countries. Since 1 July 2009, the organizational tasks of the UCTE from the parent association are adopted European Transmission System Operators (ENTSO -E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity ).

Coordination organizations in other regions with similar tasks in the North African region, the COMELEC and in the North American region, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation ( NERC ).

General

The predecessor organization was founded in 1951, the Union pour la coordination de la Production et du transport de l' Electricité ( UCPTE ) and was converted to the UCTE in 1999 due to the liberalization of the electricity market. Originally the territory of the UCPTE limited only to the countries of Central and Western Europe, and Yugoslavia and Greece, which are connected together in a common grid. This is, as stated virtually all electrical energy networks as three-phase high voltage transmission network. Since the so-called synchronous circuit with the Eastern European composite system Centrel in 1995 also Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary are members of the UCTE.

Since 2009, the organizational and administrative tasks of the Federation of European transmission system operator assumes (ENTSO -E), the network operator comprises of different interconnected systems. The technical limitations of interconnections and the former UCTE are, however, remained unchanged, and so continue to electrical interconnections such as the UCTE and the Scandinavian countries are not directly connected electrically in the Nordel grid. Although the interconnections have with respect to the mains frequency of 50 Hz, the same nominal value, but variations and specific phases of the line frequency are different, that is, the networks are asynchronous to each other. Electrical energy between these interconnections can only be transmitted in the form of direct current via high-voltage direct current (HVDC ) or HVDC close couplers ( GKK ).

Members

Are represented in the grid area of the UCTE network operators in Austria, Belgium, Bosnia - Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Croatia, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Montenegro, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Czech Republic and Hungary.

The Scandinavian countries are members of the Nordel. Denmark is both a member of the UCTE and Nordel of where on the islands of Zealand, Lolland, Falster and the interconnected grid Nordel criteria is controlled while it is being driven in Jutland and Funen according to UCTE guidelines. Some systems consist of high-voltage direct current (HVDC ) as the conti- Skan or the Cross - Skagerrak between the networks of the UCTE and Nordel of.

The British Isles form a separate composite system. Iceland, Malta and Cyprus operate so-called island networks and are technically not connected to a network system.

Historical

On 10 October 2004, the 1991 separated by the effects of war, ranging from Croatia and Greece to Romania, South East European Network of UCTE area was again coupled with the central European network. Prerequisite for this was extensive repair work and new construction of substations and lines, especially in Croatia and Bosnia - Herzegovina.
