United Nations Security Council Resolution 678

By means of Resolution 678 of the UN Security Council of 29 November 1990, the UN member states were authorized to apply military force to liberate Kuwait from Iraq on January 15, 1991. Iraq had occupied Kuwait on August 2, 1990, and thus began the Second Gulf War. The resolution authorized a US-led coalition, as of January 16, 1991 Military Operations ( U.S. title: " Operation Desert Storm" ) perform against Iraq was liberated in the course of Kuwait.
