United States Post Office (Hollywood, California)

The U.S. Post Office in Hollywood is the lower one for the zip code 90048 post office in charge in Hollywood, California. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 11, 1985.

As to plan the construction of a post office in Hollywood, the renowned architect of Art Deco Claud Beelman, then partner in the architectural firm Curlett Beelman, was commissioned by the Works Progress Administration (WPA ) in 1937, he had no idea that this building is the terminus for love letters to Hollywood stars like Clark Gable, Judy Garland and others would be. The year 1937 was successful for Beelman, since the WPA gave him also the planning of the Los Angeles County Fair Gallery.

The building is one of the few historic government building in Hollywood that have not yet revealed the demolition in order to build modern apartments. The post office is thus a standing legacy Beelmans, who had his art self-taught and had the time of the turn of the century between the 19th and 20th century dedicated to modern architecture. The building is built in the style of the Streamline Moderne.
