Architecture

The campus was remodeled in the 1980s by the architect Nuno Portas and is characterized by architects of the School of Architecture of Porto. It consists of strictly ordered equal row houses, arranged around a central space, which opens to the expansive landscapes of the Ria de Aveiro out. This space is surrounded by a roofed colonnade, which offers sun and rain protection and most institute building together. Few buildings break out of this order, including the cafeteria and designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira University Library. Their volume is similar to those of the other buildings, but it is rotated 90 degrees and is oriented by the Ria de Aveiro. Her appearance is determined by the contrast of red brick surfaces to bright natural stone, the color and material combination, which requires Nuno Portas ' urban design. Also of Álvaro Siza Vieira is the water tower, a prominent structure at the western end of the campus.

There are also buildings of other well-known architects of the School of Architecture of Porto as Eduardo Souto de Moura (Institute of Earth Sciences Building ), Adalberto Dias, Alcino Soutinho and Goncalo Byrne ( Principal).
