University of Ljubljana

The University of Ljubljana (Slovenian: Univerza v Ljubljani; Latin: Universitas Labacensis ) in Ljubljana ( Laibach ) is the oldest, largest and best internationally rated university in Slovenia. It is located after the Shanghai ranking among the top 500 or front three percent of the world's best universities. With more than 63,000 enrolled undergraduate and graduate students, it is one of the largest universities in Europe.

History

The University of Ljubljana was established in 1919 in the center of Ljubljana. In the 17th century existed in Ljubljana humanistic and theological academies and 1810 a first university was established under French rule, but had only a short time. Currently employs about 3,500 professors and research assistants, as well as nearly 900 technical and administrative staff. Until the founding of universities in Maribor (University of Maribor) (1978 ) and Koper ( University of Primorska ) (2001 ) she was the only university in Slovenia for nearly 50 years.

Research and teaching

At the University of Ljubljana are about 64,600 students in 22 faculties, three art academies enrolled and a University College. The majority of Fakultärten are housed in the main building of the university. This is located in the city center of Ljubljana. Some faculties are out of town.

The international visibility of the University of Ljubljana is promoted as a venue for conferences and annual summer schools. These include, for example, the political science summer school on methods of social science, which is organized by the European Consortium for Political Research ( ECPR ) and the communication science summer school The European Media and Communication Doctoral Summer School of the European Communication Research and Education Association ( ECREA ).
