The University of San Francisco ( USF ) is a private university founded by the Jesuits and operated today in San Francisco, California. It is not to be confused with the State University of California, San Francisco ( UCSF ). She is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities.

History

It was founded by the Jesuits USFCA Anthony Maraschi, Joseph Bixio and Michael Accolti as Saint Ignatius Academy.

  • On October 15, 1855, the Saint Ignatius Academy was opened.
  • 1858 Saint Ignatius Academy was placed under California law and
  • 1859 they got the name Saint Ignatius College
  • 1863, the first Bachelor of Arts degree was conferred.
  • 1906 destruction of the buildings in the earthquake
  • 1912 Foundation of the Faculty of Law ( School of Law ) ( the first dean of Matthew I. Sullivan later became Chief Justice of the California Court (Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court ) )
  • 1925 renaming of the departments of art, science and philosophy to the College of Arts and College of Sciences
  • 1930 renamed University of San Francisco
