University of Turku

The University of Turku (Finnish: Turun yliopisto, Latin: Universitas Aboensis ) is a university in the Finnish city of Turku with approximately 21,000 students and 3,000 employees ( 2011).

The University of Turku was founded in 1920, two years after the Swedish-language Åbo Akademi. Based in Turku 1640-1828 Academy of Turku, however, is the predecessor of the University of Helsinki and is not connected with the two universities of Turku today.

The University of Turku is today one of the most dynamic and fastest growing universities in Finland. Of the 21,000 students are approximately 5,000 graduate students, and the university is the center of the Science Park Turku ( Turun tiedepuisto ).

On 1 January 2010, the Graduate School of Turku was affiliated with the University of Turku.
