Upton Park FC

The Upton Park Football Club was an English amateur football club based in the London borough Upton Park. The football club had by the mid-19th century to the early 20th century inventory. Mainly known the club was through his participation in the first FA Cup 1871/72 and winning the Olympic demonstration tournament in Paris in 1900. His game was from Upton Park in West Ham Park.

History

The club was established in 1866 took in 1871 as one of 15 teams in the first edition of the FA Cup part, but failed in the first round. Winning the FA Cup was not granted to the Londoners, and 1884, succeeded four times the quarter-finals. However, the London Senior Cup, a cup competition for teams from London won the Club at its premiere in 1882. Members of Upton Park were dedicated amateur athletes and resolved yet in 1884 inadvertently legalizing Berufssportlertums from. After a draw in the FA Cup, following which the opponents Preston North End player paid his premiums Upton Park submitted an appeal and got by the Football Association law. Preston was disqualified and Upton Park advanced to the next round. Intervention by the FA, however, was directly confronted with the issue and allowed in the following game time premium payment, also under pressure to avoid a splitting of some clubs.

1887, the club was first released, but already founded four years later. 1900 took Upton Park as a representative of Great Britain at the Olympic Games in part. The team defeated Club Français Paris 4-0 and was subsequently awarded by the IOC for a gold medal. During the Olympics, football was merely demonstration sport.

Despite the name similarity with the Upton Park, the stadium of West Ham United ( the then called Thames Ironworks ), there is no direct connection to the stadium. Upton Park FC played at Upton Park but never wore his games from a few streets away in West Ham Park.

In 1911, the club broke up for good.

Famous Players

The club has produced three England international. In addition to acting as a referee in addition Segar Bastard stood with Clement Mitchell and Conrad Warner two more International in the ranks of East London. Even the later secretary of the FA, Charles William Alcock said to have been active for Upton Park, as well as Charlie Dove, one of the first stars of the Thames Ironworks.

Others

Since 1907, the Upton Park Trophy is played between the Channel Islands of Guernsey and Jersey. The master of the two islands compete against each other. The trophy was donated by the 1906 Upton Park FC for the tenth annual Easter tour on the islands.
