Boleyn Ground

Boleyn Ground is the official name for the football stadium of London's traditional club West Ham United. However, the common name of this venue is Upton Park. After moving West Ham in the Olympic Park, the Stadtion is demolished and building complexes on it from 2016.

Construction and name origin

The stadium was built in 1904 after the club had borrowed the plot from " London District of Upton Park." There, the so-called " Green Street House " was used as a school. This building was due to the connection to Anne Boleyn, who once owned the site, also known as Boleyn Castle.

In the stadium

The stadium is a pure football stadium. It has a total capacity of 35,016 spectators and only offers seating. During the 1990s, Boleyn Ground was rebuilt several times:

Fans of West Ham United take on traditionally the legendary " Bobby Moore Stand " their place. Centrally located to the south grandstand holds after conversion, 1993, 9,000 spectators and contains exclusive VIP boxes.

The guests sitting on the trailer located in the Sir Trevor Brooking Stand north ( to July 2009 Centenary Stand ), which now has a total of 6,000 spectators for a reconstruction in 1995. The main grandstand is called ' Dr. Martens Stand. " This grandstand offers after conversion in 2001 now 15,000 fans a seat. The stadium is the easiest to reach by underground. The nearest station is called " Upton Park" and is served by District and Hammersmith & City Line. From there it is only a short walk to the stadium.

The football club West Ham United competed on September 30, 2010 and later users of the Olympic Stadium London. He wants to reduce the stadium from 80,000 to 60,000 seats; but the athletics track to be maintained. The association is looking for a new venue because a residential area and shopping center to be built on the site of the current Boleyn Ground stadium. Even the Tottenham Hotspur showed interest in the Olympic Stadium. On 11 October 2011, the Olympic Park Legacy Company ( OPLC ) said the deal with West Ham United but failed to, so the stadium is going to the Olympics to the public domain. Previously, it was revealed that Tottenham Hotspur had brought an action under the encouragement to West Ham United, was accused in corruption.

In December 2011, the re-use has been re-tendered. Since then, 16 interested parties have reported to the competent Olympic Park Society OPLC. Among the interested parties is also again West Ham United. The official application process began on 23 March 2012. 2014, the Olympic Stadium will be passed to the subsequent user.
