Turid is the daughter of Ragnhild Toralfsdóttir and Torkil Barfrost from Norway. Turiðs Last Torkilsdóttir ( Torkils daughter) is used here to distinguish it from other makers of the first name, in the literature it is generally only called Turid ( chief widow ). Your year of birth is not known, but the Faroese told that Sigmundur Brestisson and Tori Beinirsson in their journey through Norway to 973 came to Ulfdal in Dovre, where Turiðs parents lived, and that they are " very young " was then, later a relationship with Sigmundur started and was pregnant by him at 979. It is assumed that it was about the same age with the then 18 -year-olds.

While her daughter Torah was therefore born around this time, she married Sigmundur probably until about 986, when he was the third time in Norway. The wedding should have taken place according to the Faroese on the court of King Håkon Jarl in Trondheim and has lasted seven days. In autumn, the young family moved to the Faroe Islands, where Turid spent the rest of their lives.

Together with Sigmundur she had four more children, the sons Tórálvur, Steingrímur, Brandur and Heri. They all lived on the farm in Skúvoy.
