Urmas Sisask

Urmas Sisask ( born September 9, 1960 in Rapla ) is an Estonian composer and musician.

Life

Sisask began in 1969 with piano lessons. He studied composition with René Eespere to 1985 at the Estonian Music Academy in Tallinn. Especially occupied himself Urmas Sisask with Gregorian chant and baroque music. He is now one of the most famous contemporary composers in Estonia. Urmas Sisask is also the brother of the Estonian singer and politician Siiri Sisask (* 1968). He was awarded the Order of the White Star 4th class ( Officer's Cross ) 2001.

Work

Urmas Sisask maintains an eclectic style. Much of his inspiration he receives from the astronomy. The " cosmic harmony " is a recurring theme to which he has developed his own scale. Its composition and performance studio is located in a 1994 furnished Star Tower in the historic Castle of Jäneda.

Much of his work consists of pieces for mixed a cappella choirs. In addition, Urmas Sisask composes for orchestra, piano and clarinet. A devoted Catholic, has also created numerous sacred works.
