History

The ship was laid on September 30, 1976 at the Marinette Marine Shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin on Kiel. The launch took place on 24 June 1978, after further outfitting the Powhatan on 15 June 1979 was transferred to the Military Sealift Command of the U.S. Navy.

It was then assigned to the U.S. Atlantic Fleet and stationed in the Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Little Creek, Delaware.

In the summer of 1986, the Powhatan dragged the battleship Wisconsin in preparation for the reactivation of the Avondale Shipyard in New Orleans, Louisiana. In October of the same year, the ship was on the spot, when the Soviet nuclear submarine K -219 sank.

On 26 February 1999, the Powhatan the tractor was released from active duty in the U.S. Navy and leased to a private operator ( DONJON Marine Co., Inc., Hillside, NJ), with the U.S. Navy reserved the right, at any time to take into active service.

On 26 February 2008, the ship as a TCG Inebolu (A -590 ) was provided by the Turkish Navy in service after a day earlier removed from the list of vessels of the U.S. Navy and under the Security Assistance Program ( SAP), Foreign Military Sale ( FMS) had been transferred to Turkey.
