The USS Chafee (DDG- 90) is a destroyer in the United States Navy and is one of the Arleigh Burke - class. It is named after the politician John Chafee.

History

The Chafee was given in 1998 in order and placed in 2001 at Bath Iron Works in Kiel. After a construction period of 18 months, the destroyer was launched from the dock. Godmothers were Chaffees widow Virginia and Diane Blair, wife of former Admiral Dennis C. Blair. In October 2003 the official commissioning ceremony at the United States Navy. The ship is named after former Senator John Chafee, who died in 1999, and served as Navy at Guadalcanal. The Chafee is stationed at Pearl Harbor.
