The USS Dewey (DDG -105 ) is a destroyer in the United States Navy and is one of the Arleigh Burke - class. It is named after Admiral George Dewey, the only person who has ever reached the rank Admiral of the Navy. Dewey is known for its role during the Battle of Manila Bay in the Spanish -American War.
History
The construction of the destroyer was commissioned in 2002, Shipyard Ingalls Shipbuilding was. The keel of DDG -105 was laid on 4 October 2006, 26 January 2008, the ship was launched and was baptized. Godmother for Dewey was Deborah M. Mullen, the wife of Admiral Michael Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. On the baptism follows the final finishing at the pier, then the shipyard sea trials.
