The PCU Enterprise ( CVN -80) is constructed as a third aircraft carrier of the Gerald R. Ford - class of the United States Navy. The ship should be put into service in 2027 and then replace the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN -69).
Naming
On the occasion of the withdrawal of the same name USS Enterprise ( CVN -65 ), the first aircraft carrier of the U.S. Navy with nuclear propulsion, the Navy Secretary Ray Mabus announced on 1 December 2012 that in whose honor the third aircraft carrier of the Gerald R. Ford class also will bear the name Enterprise.
Construction
Construction of the Enterprise is to be given in 2018 in order. The production is planned at the shipyards of Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virginia.
