The USS Gridley (DDG- 101) is a destroyer in the United States Navy and is one of the Arleigh Burke - class. The warship is named after Captain Charles Vernon Gridley, who commanded and in the Spanish -American War Admiral George Dewey's flagship USS Olympia ( C-6) during the Battle of Manila Bay 's famous command, "You May Fire When You Are ready, Gridley " received.
History
DDG -101 was commissioned in 1998. In July 2004 the ship at Bath Iron Works was placed on keel and ran there on 28 December 2005 from the stack. This was followed by the final outfitting of the ship at the pier and in the shipyard sea trials. The official commissioning ceremony and thus transfer to the fleet of the U.S. Navy on 10 February 2007 at the Port of Miami. The Gridley was then stationed in San Diego and is traveling in the Pacific Fleet.
In May 2008, the destroyer moved on, also based in San Diego USS Ronald Reagan ( CVN -76) side in the Persian Gulf, 2009 in the western Pacific. In December 2010, the next use of the journey Gridley began, this time on the side of the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN -70) in Asian waters.
