The USS Hampton ( SSN -767 ) is a nuclear submarine of the United States Navy and is part of the Los Angeles- class.

Insignia

The four stars in the Insignia of USS Hampton symbolize the four cities, after which the ship is named: Hampton, Virginia, Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire. On a blue background the silhouette of the current USS Hampton is seen in front of the silhouette of the CSS Hampton, which was built and used in 1862. Among the motto of the boat, Qui Desiderant Pacem Bellum preparate is ( Eng.: The desire, the peace, directed to a war ).

History

The contract to build the Hampton, Newport News Shipbuilding was awarded to 1987, the keel was laid in 1990 at the shipyard in Newport News, Virginia. Launching and naming ceremony took place after 25 months of construction, 1993, Hampton was put into service with the U.S. Navy.

In 2004, the Hampton met with the British submarine of the Trafalgar class, HMS Tireless ( S88) under the North Pole and dived through the Arctic ice. 2007 Hampton was involved in the exercise Valiant Shield.

In March 2008, the commander of the boat was relieved of his command and fined ten other crew members after it was revealed that had been forged among other things, verification data of the water in the reactor. In October 2008, the submarine moved under a new command in the Western Pacific. During another use drive put it on, among other things in Hong Kong in May 2011.
