The Harold E. Holt ( DE/FF-1074 ) was a frigate of the Knox class. She stood from 1971 to 1992 in service with the United States Navy. She was Harold Holt ( * August 5, 1908 in Sydney, † December 19, 1967 ), the 17th Prime Minister of Australia, named.
History
The Harold E. Holt was laid on 11 May 1968 Todd Pacific Shipyards in San Pedro, California to Kiel. The launch took place on 3 May 1969 was commissioned into the Navy on 26 March 1971.
The ship was assigned to the Pacific Fleet, the home port was Pearl Harbor. In May 1975, Holt was involved in the rescue of the Mayaguez, who was kidnapped by the Khmer Rouge and its crew.
On 2 July 1992, the frigate was decommissioned, it still remained until January 11, 1995 in the register of ships of the Navy. The Harold E. Holt was sunk on 10 July 2002 during the SINKEX 2002 by the USS Paul F. Foster.
