The USS Henry M. Jackson (SSBN-730) is a nuclear submarine of the United States Navy and is part of the Ohio - class. As Ship Submersible Ballistic Nuclear she leads with 24 ICBMs.

History

The construction contract for SSBN -730 was issued on June 6, 1977 at the Electric Boat shipyard. In the dry dock of EB in Groton, Connecticut, the submarine was in 1981 placed on the stack. At that time, provided as the name USS Rhode Iceland. As on 1 September 1983, just days before launch and baptism, but of Senator Henry M. Jackson died, a patron of the Navy, was the proposed name change and christened the boat on the name USS Henry M. Jackson.
