The USS Jason Dunham (DDG -109 ) is a destroyer in the United States Navy and is one of the Arleigh Burke - class. It is named after Corporal Jason Dunham. Dunham died after 2004 Iraq war was shielding a hand grenade with his body and thus protected his comrades. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

History

DDG -109 was commissioned in 2002. 2008 Bath Iron Works laid the ship on deck. On August 1, 2009 the christening took place godmother was the mother of the corporals, Deb Dunham. A day later ran the Jason Dunham from the stack. The ship was handed over to the Navy in the summer of 2010 and was put into Port Everglades on November 13, 2010 in service.

In June 2012, the Jason Dunham moved to her maiden voyage on the side of the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN -69) to the Mediterranean and Arabian waters. In early July, she participated in the multinational exercise Sea Breeze.
