The USS Monterey (CG- 61) is a guided missile cruiser of the United States Navy and is a member of the Ticonderoga class. The name is derived from the Battle of Monterrey during the Mexican- American War.

History

CG- 61 was commissioned in 1984 and 1987 set at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Kiel. After little more than a year, the cruiser was launched and was baptized. In the summer of 1990, the commissioning took place in the fleet of the U.S. Navy.

In the summer of 1993, the Monterey moved to the side of the USS America (CV -66) to the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean. In the Mediterranean, the battle group took part in the operations Deny Flight, Provide Promise and Sharp Guard, on the way to the Indian Ocean from the Red Sea in Operation Southern Watch and Operation Continue Hope to eventually then.
