The USS Patterson ( DE/FF-1061 ) was a frigate of the Knox class. She stood from 1970 to 1991 in the service of the United States Navy and was the third ship ( born 6 March 1786, † August 25, 1839 ) by Daniel Todd Patterson was named.

History

The keel laying of Patterson took place on October 12, 1967 at Avondale Shipyards, New Orleans. After the launch on May 3, 1969, she was placed in the Navy on 14 March 1970 in service. The test drives found off the coast of Cuba held in the summer of 1971, the ship crossed the Atlantic for the first time and visited Northern Europe. In early 1974, Patterson was the first used in the Mediterranean with the 6th Fleet. At the time of reclassification to the frigate mid-1975 she was prepared and equipped with a launcher for Sea Sparrow missiles at the shipyard and for the inclusion of a LAMPS helicopter ( SH-2 Seasprite ).

The end of 1976, beginning of 1977 reversed the Patterson returned to the Mediterranean, as well as 1978/79. In the fall, their second trip in northern European waters, in the summer they provided humanitarian aid for hurricane victims on St. Lucia. In October of the next stop followed in the Mediterranean and in the Persian Gulf lasted until January 1981. In the autumn of 1981, followed by the sixth Mediterranean residence, for the operations in the Red Sea the ship in 1982 was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation.

In June 1983, the Patterson of the Naval Reserve Force in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was allocated. It operated the next eight years along the U.S. coast as a training ship for naval reservists. The end of 1990, she participated in anti - drug operations in the Caribbean and crossed twice the Panama Canal. One last trip to Bermuda in May 1991 was followed by the decommissioning on 30 September 1991. Pending the removal from the register of ships in January 1995, she was assigned to the reserve fleet, after that it was an attempt to sell them as spare parts to Greece. On September 29, 1999, she was sold to Baltimore Marine Industries Inc in Baltimore for scrapping and completely scrapped by mid-2000.
