The USS San Juan (SSN -751 ) is a nuclear submarine of the United States Navy and is part of the Los Angeles- class.

History

The contract to build the San Juan, was issued in 1982 at Electric Boat. This company put 1985 the keel of the boat launching was 1986. The submarine was made in 1988 with the U.S. Navy in service. The boat is named after the capital of Puerto Rico, San Juan.

The boat was the first boat of the improved contract section 688 (I). Among other things, the San Juan has thus an improved sonar system also hydroplanes have been displaced from the tower to the fuselage to facilitate the breaking of the ice sheet at the appearance in operations under the Arctic ice sheet.

On 19 March 1998, the San Juan collided with a boat in the Ohio class, the USS Kentucky ( SSBN -737 ). At the time of the accident, the San Juan was immersed, the Kentucky was on the water surface. In San Juan, the front ballast tank was ripped open, while Kentucky suffered no damage. Likewise, no one was injured. Both boats were sailing under its own power in their bases, where they were examined.

2009 moved the San Juan in the Mediterranean and from there into the Indian Ocean. She put on, inter alia, the Seychelles and South Africa.
