The USS Stonewall Jackson (SSBN-634) was a submarine of the Lafayette class. It was named after General Thomas Jonathan Jackson, known named as Stonewall Jackson, who fought in the army of the Confederate States of America.

History

The Stonewall Jackson was given in 1961 at Mare Naval Shipyard in Iceland behalf and 1962 there Keel-laying. The launch took place after about one and a half years, in August 1964, the boat was eventually found in the United States Navy in service.

Was followed by first training runs, culminating in the first launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile on December 2. The submarine was stationed in Apra Harbor, Guam, from where it drove the first five years. 1970 was followed by the assignment to the Atlantic Fleet. There was still carried out an overhaul at the shipyard of Electric Boat in the same year. Following the Stonewall was until 1978 stationed in Holy Loch, Scotland. Until 1980, there was another overhaul, this time in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Starting in 1982, the boat finally operated from the Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.

On 9 February 1995, the Stonewall Jackson was decommissioned and canceled in the same year in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as part of the Ship - Submarine Recycling Program.
