The USS Vicksburg (CG -69) Guided Missile Cruiser is a United States Navy and is a member of the Ticonderoga class.

History

CG- 69 was commissioned in 1988 and placed in May 1990 at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Kiel. In September 1991, the ship was launched and was baptized. Godmother was Tricia Lott, wife of former U.S. Senator Trent Lott. On November 14, 1992, Vicksburg was officially put into service.

The first mission trip of Vicksburg was in 1994 as an escort of the USS Saratoga (CV -60) instead. The battle group moved into the Mediterranean where she participated in the missions Operation Deny Flight, Operation Sharp Guard and Operation Provide Promise. 1997 moved the cruiser as part of the battle group to the USS John F. Kennedy (CV -67 ) to the Persian Gulf participated in Operation Deliberate Guard and Operation Southern Watch. In 1998, the Vicksburg problems with the computers of the Aegis combat system and has therefore taken out of the use of rotation.

In October 2008, the cruiser participated in the sinking of the destroyer decommissioned USS O'Bannon (DD -987 ) in part and moved in 2009 to the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower page (CVN -69) in the Indian Ocean, there to Somali pirates to fight. With the USS Enterprise ( CVN -65) moved the cruiser in 2012 to the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean.

The ship was supposed to be made on March 31, 2013 out of service. Later, the Navy but decided against it and kept the Vicksburg.
