Usumatlán

Usumatlán (formerly San Juan Uzumatlán ) is a city and a municipality in the department of Zacapa in Guatemala. The town is located approximately 150 kilometers northeast of Guatemala City and 37 km west of the city of Zacapa near the Atlantic Highway CA 9 to 230 m altitude.

The municipality is located in the west Zacapas and extends from the valley of the Río Motagua in the north of it lying mountains. It has a total of about 10,000 inhabitants, of whom the majority are Ladinos. The municipality is next to the main town Usumatlán of several " rural communities " ( Aldeas ). Main economic activities are agriculture, craft and service sectors.

Adjacent Municipalities are Teculutan the north and east, Huité the east and Cabañas in the south. In the West Usumatlán borders on San Cristóbal in the department of El Progreso Acasaguastlán.
