V. Selvaganesh

V. Selvaganesh ( born September 17, 1972 in Chennai, India) is an Indian percussionist who has his musical roots in the Carnatic music (South Indian classical). He is a leading Kanjira player ( south Indian frame drum ) and is also known under the name " Chella S. Ganesh ."

Life and work

Selvaganesh is grandson of TR Harihara Sarma, Sri Jaya Ganesh Tala which the Vadya Vidyalaya (Sri JGTV school ) has been established in Chennai.

In 1993, he was with the famous tabla player Zakir Hussain, whose father Alla Rakha and his own father TH Vinayakram on a European tour.

Selvaganesh gained worldwide notoriety through his work with John McLaughlin Remember Shakti as part of the project in which he partially replaced his father.

Today he teaches at the Sri JGTV School Carnatic percussion instruments, composes, records and albums, along with dr. Joel and his brother, the Carnatic singer Mahesh, member of the band dr JSM. Their album Turn on the dreams, an Indian- style blend Celtic, 2005 came on the market. The first album under his own name, " Soukha ", was released in 2006.

In addition to John McLaughlin Selvaganesh played together with the Swedish bassist Jonas Hellborg and the Indian musicians MS Subbulakshmi, ML Vasanthakumari, Gayathri, Jayaraman, U. Shrinivas, Ganesh, Kumeresh, DK Jayaraman, TN Seshagopalan, Gopalnath and Ramachandran.
