Vacheresse

Vacheresse is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Vacheresse is on 834 m above sea level, 16 km east-southeast of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located in the Chablais, slightly increased on the eastern flank of the Dranse d' Abondance, in the northern Savoy Alps.

The area of ​​31.02 km ² municipal area includes a section of the Vallée d' Abondance. The valley is oriented relatively open and from southeast to northwest in the range of Vacheresse. In the southwest area of ​​the municipality extends to the mountain range that separates the Vallée d' Abondance valley from the Dranse de Morzine. To the east of the municipality of soil extends in a strong in relief area that is drained by the Eau Noire and her side stream Nant de Darbon for Dranse d' Abondance. This area is the summit of Pointe de Pelluaz (1916 m), Pointe de Bénévent ( 2071 m), Pointe de Lachau (1962 m), Mont chauffé ( with 2095 m the highest peak of Vacheresse ), and Pointe d' Autigny (1807 m) delimited. There is an extensive alpine meadows on the slopes. Furthermore, the mountain lakes Lac de Fontaine and Lac de Darbon belong to the community.

  • Ubine ( 1491 m ), an Alpine hamlet at the western foot of the Mont chauffé
  • Darbon ( 1578 m ), an Alpine hamlet in the valley of the Nant de Darbon

Neighboring communities of Vacheresse are Bernex in the north, Novel and La Chapelle- d'Abondance in the east, and Abondance Bonnevaux in the south and La Baume and Chevenoz in the West.

History

Vacheresse formerly belonged to the territory of the abbey of Sainte -Marie- d'Abondance.

Population

With 778 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Vacheresse is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a significant growth of population was recorded. Outside the old village center caused various houses.

Economy and infrastructure

Vacheresse was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various businesses of the local small businesses; of importance is the wood-processing industry. Many working population commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work. The region around Vacheresse is a popular summer hiking area.

The village lies on the main road that leads from Thonon -les- Bains in the Vallée d' Abondance.
