Val Ferrera

The Ferreratal ( Romansh: Val Ferrera ) is a about ten kilometers long valley in the canton of Graubünden between the shams and the obverse. Is through the fins Ferreratal from Avers Rhine. The only towns are Heart and Ausserferrera.

The Ferreratal was known to the early modern period for the iron ore deposits, which secured the economic livelihood on mining and the inhabitants. The Schmelzra at the entrance of the valley is a mining historical industrial monument and is since 1972 under protection of the Canton of Grisons.

Until the 20th century was between the Ferreratal and the obverse adopted the language and cultural border between Romansh and Walser, but not the confessional because both valleys were joined the Reformation and the Reformed doctrine.
