Valaste

Valaste ( German Wallast ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Kohtla. It is located in north-eastern Estonia Ida- Viru. Valaste was first mentioned in the 13th century in Liber Census Daniæ as Uvalat documented. The village today has 109 inhabitants (as of 2005).

Waterfall

The village is mainly known for the highest with 30.5 m waterfall in Estonia, the Valaste juga. The first written mention of the waterfall is dated 1840, when appearing in Tartu Baltic German magazine " Domestic " as the natural wonders referred to him.

The waterfall is located between the manor of Ontika and the western edge of Valaste. The water flows near the Baltic Sea via the Klint and offers an impressive natural spectacle. In winter form strong sea winds and sudden falling temperatures beautiful ice sculptures. The waterfall is easily accessible via a modern viewing platform and popular tourist destination in the region.
