Valdemar, Duke of Finland

Waldemar Magnusson (* around 1285, † February 16, 1318 in Nyköping ) was a Swedish Prince and Duke of Finland. He was the youngest son of Magnus Ladulås and his wife Hedwig of Holstein and brother of the later King Birger Magnusson and Erik Magnusson.

On the occasion of the coronation of his brother Birger in 1302 to the king of Sweden, he was married to the daughter of the empire superintendent Torgils Knutsson Kristina. This marriage was divorced again in 1305, as Waldemar could not continue the marriage due to the spiritual relationship with Kristina because Knutsson was his godfather. In the fall of 1312 married Waldemar Ingebjørg Eriksdatter, the daughter of Erik. II of Norway. After he had pressed together with his brother Erik in 1315, large parts of the Swedish Empire King Birger, Waldemar received the largest parts of Finland, the Stockholm Palace, together with most of Upplands and Öland Borgholm Castle. Under his reign as Duke of Finland, the Turku Castle was extended by a castle to castle. During the Christmas party in 1317 at Schloss Nyköpingshus to Birger revenge on his two younger brothers and took her captive. A few months later, Erik and Valdemar died in captivity on Nyköpingshus.

From the marriage with Ingeborg a son, Erik went (* 1316 ), shows, however, the apparently died young. Maybe he had more children, because in letters of 1344 and 1345 is of their heritage for their children ( " liberi ", " filii " ) speech.
