Valentino Siani

Valentino Siani (* 1595, † 1672 in Florence ) was an Italian violin-maker and lived from about 1620 until his death in Florence.

The instruments of Siani remember in type and design of the work of Giovanni Paolo Maggini of Brescia ( 1581-1632 ). The assumption that Siani has worked at Maggini is close and is supported by a tax register of the City Archives in Florence from 1621. There, the violin and Violenmacher Valentino Siani from Brescia is mentioned as taxable citizens of the city of Florence.

Particularly well known is for its viola Siani, whose sound has already been rated by Walter Hamma in his standard work " master Italian violin making " very good. The instruments of Valentino Siani are extremely rare. They typically have a high curvature which expires in a well- crafted fillet. What is striking is the narrow clamping inserts and the particularly idiosyncratic engraved screw.

A Viola Valentino Siani is imaged at Walter Hamma in " master Italian violin making ."
