Valgjärve Parish

Valgjärve (German Weissensee) is a rural municipality in the Estonian Põlva circle with an area of ​​143.1 km ². It has 1556 inhabitants ( as at 10 January 2005).

In addition to the main town Saverna to the municipality includes the villages Abissaare, Aiaste, Hauka, Koolie, Krüüdneri, Maaritsa, Mügra, Pikajärve, Pikareinu, Puugi, Sirvaste, Sulaoja, Tiido, Valgjärve and Vissi.

Saverna is documented since 1582. The local manor was one of the first to be sold by German Balts in Estonian families. Of particular interest in the community, the park and the lake are ( 79.7 ha) of Valgjärve (translated: Weissensee 1533 as Wytten see first mentioned ).

In Valgjärve is the 347 meter high Valgjärve transmission tower, the second tallest building in Estonia.
